Your boundaries come first
BeAnon is an anonymous social chat app for adults aged 18 and over. Being at college or university doesn’t change this: everyone must be at least 18.
You never owe anyone a reply, a photo, a voice note or more of your time. If a conversation makes you uncomfortable, you can end it. No safety system can stop every harmful interaction, so the tips below are worth keeping in mind.

Protect your identity
Keep your home address, live location, college or university, workplace, identity documents and financial details private. Never share passwords, OTPs or account recovery codes.
What “anonymous” means on BeAnon
- Hidden from other users, not untraceable. Other people don’t see your real identity by default, but BeAnon still processes some data to run the service, and information can be disclosed where the law requires it.
- Messages aren’t end-to-end encrypted. Authorised staff and service providers may access content where needed, for example to review a report.
- What you share can identify you. Photos, voice notes, backgrounds, reflections and personal details can all reveal who you are.
- Selfie filters and screenshot restrictions have limits. A selfie filter partially conceals your face so you can choose whether to reveal your identity; it doesn’t hide your face completely, guarantee anonymity or prove who someone is. Screenshot restrictions can’t stop someone recording their screen with another device. Assume anything you send could be saved.

Report, block and leave
When the app is available, you’ll be able to use these controls from a chat or a user’s profile. They do different things, and you can use more than one:
- Report tells BeAnon about a message, photo or account that breaks the Community Guidelines. Choose the reason that fits best and add any context that helps.
- Block stops that account from contacting you again.
- Leave ends the current anonymous conversation and deletes its messages and shared media for both of you; it can’t be undone. Leaving on its own doesn’t report the person or block them, so use those too if needed.
You don’t have to wait for a decision on a report before blocking someone or leaving a chat.
If you can’t use the app, email grievance@beanon.app. Include the account or chat reference, the approximate date and time, what happened, and how we can reply. Don’t send passwords, OTPs or identity documents.

Scams and threats
Scams often begin as a friendly chat. Keep yourself safer by following a few rules:
- Never send money, OTPs, recovery codes, card or bank details, or UPI PINs to anyone you meet on BeAnon.
- Be careful with links you didn’t ask for, investment or trading tips, and pressure to move to another app.
If someone threatens to share your photos or videos, or demands money, it isn’t your fault and you don’t have to deal with it alone:
- Stop replying. Don’t pay, and don’t send more photos or videos.
- If it’s safe to do so, save the threatening messages, the account or chat reference and the dates and times before you lose access to them.
- Report and block the account.
- Get help from someone you trust, and report the threat to the police or on cybercrime.gov.in.

Protect children
BeAnon is only for adults. Anyone under 18 is not allowed to use it. The following are strictly prohibited:
- use of BeAnon by anyone under 18
- grooming, or any attempt to contact a child for sexual purposes
- child sexual abuse and exploitation, including sextortion and trafficking
- sexual content involving minors, including drawn, edited or AI-generated material
If you think an account belongs to someone under 18, report the account in the app. If you can’t use the app, email grievance@beanon.app with the account or chat reference and why you’re concerned.
Never download, forward or email suspected child sexual abuse material. Report where you saw it, or the message or account reference, instead. You can also report it on cybercrime.gov.in, and if a child is in immediate danger, call 112.
Read BeAnon’s Child Safety Standards. Suspected offences that must be reported are referred to the appropriate authorities. In India, this includes the local police or Special Juvenile Police Unit under POCSO.
Get urgent help
BeAnon is not an emergency service. In India:
- Immediate danger: call 112.
- Money lost to online fraud: call 1930 as soon as possible.
- Other cybercrime: report it on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
Outside India, contact your local emergency services.
What happens to report information
When you report something, we may keep the reported messages or media, the account identifiers involved and related context so that we can look into it. Authorised staff and service providers may access this information where needed to review the report, keep people safe or meet legal duties.
Relevant evidence can be kept after a chat ends, and may be shared with authorities where the law requires it. We aim to limit sharing information that could identify the person who made the report.
